Joy Lopez teaches 6th, 7th and 8th grade Science, Pre-algebra and 6th grade Bible. She is a graduate of Vanguard University. She holds a California Professional Clear Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential. She and her husband were childrens’ pastors in Orange County before moving back to San Diego in 2006. Joy holds a special part in the history of TCS as she was in the first Kindergarten class at TCS. She is also the first student to graduate (1987) and then return to teach at the school. Several of her teachers are still at Trinity. Her former teachers have now become her mentors and colleagues! Mrs. Lopez has two children. One attends Foothills Christian High and the other will be attending California Baptist University this year. She enjoys the “aha” moments with her students when they are trying to learn something new.
Mrs. Jahnai Hughes teaches seventh grade homeroom and middle school history. After graduating from Concordia Chicago in 2009, Mrs. Hughes worked as an elementary teacher and principal for five years. She then obtained two graduate degrees in Teacher Leadership (UOP) and Organizational Leadership (SDCC) and moved to teaching future teachers at the college level while working on her Doctorate in Education.
A native of Chicago, IL, Mrs. Hughes moved to San Diego in 2010. She and her husband Michael have been married since October 2020. Combined, they have four kiddos. Their three daughters attend TCS, and their son is currently a junior at Grossmont High. The Hugheses love to BBQ, spend time together, and be outdoors!
Mrs. Henderson teaches 6th, 7th, and 8th grade English and is the 7th grade homeroom teacher. She grew up as a missionary kid in Croatia, self-published the book Even Tears Are Good with Bread, received her degree in English Education at Indiana Wesleyan University, and taught for three years at Liberty Charter High School before coming to teach at Trinity. She is passionate about equipping students to develop their voice in speaking and writing as well as develop their ability to listen actively.
