Coronavirus Closure Parent Letter

April 4, 2020

Dear Parents,

As we approach Easter we pray that you will take time to enjoy your family and the grace God has extended through Jesus. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8.

As we look to the near future, we see that our off campus learning will be extended much longer than the experts first suggested. In light of this, we want to recognize our amazing TCS parents, students and teachers who have done an incredible job through difficult circumstances extending grace to one another. We continue to hold out hope that we will be able to open our campus before the end of the school year.  All decisions about re-opening the campus will be made under guidance from local health agencies. We are prepared for distance learning through the end of the school year if necessary. However, if there is a possibility to re-open safely even for just a week we will do so. At this point, it is too early to tell so we are proceeding in segments. The first segment will start with the three weeks following Easter Break, then every two weeks following that we will offer a drop-off/pick-up drive thru. In this way our students will have continuous classroom instruction with opportunities for grading completed work. As a result, report cards can be completed for promotion and graduation in June. We will host a promotion and graduation ceremony if we can do so safely. Our dedicated hard working staff has done an amazing job of transforming classroom experiences to a personalized home study environment. They have been working diligently planning for this next phase of your child’s grade level experience.

After Easter Break your child will have the opportunity to be with their classmates and teacher who will be doing some live online instruction to enhance the student learning experience. Our first goal for this live instruction is to help your child feel a sense of normalcy in being able to interact with their teacher and classmates.  All of the teachers are looking forward to this interaction because they miss being in the classroom. Our second goal with the live online instruction is to make sure that students continue to progress through this year’s curriculum guided by their teacher. Teachers are working hard to make online learning meaningful for your child. We are committed to providing a quality academic experience to ensure students are ready for the next grade level.

On April 13th the following schedule is set up for families to drop-off and pick-up packets according to the first letter of your last name. Teachers (Preschool through Middle School) have gathered material for your child(ren) to have at home in addition to the online connections. Care has been taken to protect the materials and they will be in sealed plastic bags. If you have more than one student, we will gather the packets together and put them in one large bag per family. There will be several lines available so please stay in your car. Family bags will be delivered to you.  Precautions will be practiced. Please remember to return your student’s finished work in a disposable bag labeled with their name and grade level.

Packet Drop-off/Pick-up schedule by family LAST name

A-C = 9:00 a.m.    D-H = 10:00 a.m. I-M = 11:00 a.m.     N-S = 12:00 p.m. T-Z = 1:00 p.m.

We are aware that there may be families who have been unable to work at home, or otherwise, find themselves in a difficult financial situation. We are working on some ways to extend the opportunity to apply for tuition assistance if you are suffering a financial hardship due to the coronavirus circumstances. Please know that our desire is to be able to help those who are in financial distress and continue to uphold all our families in prayer for whatever needs they may have, both known or unknown to us, at this unsettling time.

For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you,

“Fear not, I will help you.” Isaiah 41:13 (NKJV)

In His everlasting love and grace,

Coronavirus Closure Parent Letter

March 31, 2020

Dear TCS Parents,

We appreciated being able to touch base personally with our TCS families on the phone after our first week off campus. It has been quite the experience for one and all to travel these uncharted waters. There is no protocol for most everything that has happened. We are doing our best to continue the flow of our students learning so that they may start the upcoming school year with confidence having finished this year’s current grade level. Our dedicated staff has risen to the occasion with creativity and focus. Within one weekend they made student packets and created a Google Classroom as a foundation to build ongoing instruction and direction for their students. Our awesome TCS parents are to be congratulated for supporting the process of continual learning for their students. Some of you have shared wonderful ideas online for additional activities as well.

At this point, we are not sure how long we will be providing distance learning. The most important factor is the safety of our students and staff.  Our prayer is that the suffering from both the illness and its consequences will be brought to a healthy end. Originally we hoped to resume on April 14th, however, in the light of the unknown we are making plans for an extended time as long as it is needed. We have planned for parents to come by for another packet pick-up in the parking lot on April 13th by scheduled times. We will have one bag per family which will contain all their students’ work. Families will be arriving according to the first letter of their last names. When you pick-up your child’s packet please plan on dropping off all of their completed work in a bag with your child’s name on it. Please do not return workbooks (ex: completed work in a spelling book). Look for an email next week that will have a drop-off/pick-up schedule for Monday, April 13th.

Students will continue with online TCS Google Classroom and teachers will be scheduling some live Zoom meetings that will start after Easter Break to give an opportunity to stay connected with the class. A Zoom meeting class schedule will be sent out next week. In this way the students will be able to continue home study distance learning until we know it is safe to return. There are differing conversations surrounding this very serious situation and its time frame. We would rather be safe than sorry. Please keep an eye out for your students’ teachers’ online communications as they will be directing the distance learning. Please let us know if there are those that need help with anything.

We will continue to pray for each student and family member as we do our best to fulfill our mission.

“Trinity Christian School, an outreach ministry of Trinity Church, commits to a partnership with parents to inspire academic and personal excellence in a Christ-centered environment.”

Please continue to pray for the times in which we live and for our little corner of the world here at Trinity Christian School. Let us continue to give each other grace within our households, classrooms, and community understanding that everyone is doing the best they can do under difficult circumstances.  God bless you one and all,

Sharon and Jimmie

Greetings TCS Families,

We hope this update finds your family well and that you feel a sense of God’s presence each new day.  We pray that through God’s grace you’ve been able to adjust to how life is lived during this unprecedented season.

We needed to let you know that at this time the office will only be open intermittently.

The best way to communicate with the school will be through email: [email protected].

If you have any questions regarding technology use during our Home Study days a separate Informational Technology email has been created that will be monitored by our Trinity IT Specialist, Lawrence Luhnow.  Please do not hesitate to email if you need help accessing the online education being provided during this time.  The email address is [email protected]

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

Home Study Update

March 17, 202

Dear Trinity Christian School Parents,

Thank you so much for the support you have shown in response to the decision we had to make to have students learning from home. Your child’s continued quality education and safety are of the highest priority. We will keep you informed of any changes in protocol for TCS as we become aware of them. We are in communication with the school board and at this time the office will remain open and teachers will stay in touch with their students for Home Study days via technology.

The TCS staff has been working as a team to keep the continuity of learning going for our students. Yesterday an email was sent to you from your student’s teacher to “join a Google Classroom” (K-8th grade).  Your child’s teacher will be posting a daily video on their “Google Classroom” to stay in touch in addition to posting assignments.  This is a great way for you and your child to stay connected with your classroom teacher.  The teachers are working diligently to make this a valuable learning tool.  Please be patient as we work out any glitches in the system.

We are very thankful for our technology team. Mr. Lawrence Luhnow, our Information Technology specialist has led the way in Trinity being a Google for Education school site.  We are also thankful for Jamie Warren and Stephanie Luhnow who have been an integral part of the team offering professional development and support to our classroom teachers. If you have technology questions regarding getting your students online, Mr. Lawrence Luhnow has set up a special email account that he will be checking regularly. The email to answer your technology questions is [email protected]

TCS is a strong community and we trust that you are reaching out in love and encouragement to each other through social media, text, emails, phone calls, and videos to stay connected. We are praying for each of you. In this unusual time, we pray that we would all have opportunities to share the hope we have in the Lord with an uncertain world. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope” Romans 15:13 (ESV)

School Closure Announcement

San Diego County has declared a local and public health emergency in response to COVID-19, and the San Diego Center for Disease Control has moved into the phase of limiting community spread, which involves protecting our school communities. For this reason, California’s largest districts and most schools in San Diego, have made the decision to close temporarily.

We have no information indicating that we have, or have had, any individual infected with the coronavirus on our campus.  However, out of an abundance of caution, we have had to make the decision to have students not attend school on campus temporarily beginning Monday, March 16th

Thankfully, we have a contingency plan for students that will allow them to continue receiving a Christian education with their teacher.  This will be accomplished with the help of some online tools and packets of work that can be completed at home. For the Home Study days (March 16th-27th) we will be using “Google Classroom” online which will allow assignments to be posted and for parents to keep in touch with their child’s teacher.  More information about how to access your child’s Google Classroom online will be sent to you on Monday, March 16th. Teachers are also preparing packets of work for students in the younger grades that can be picked up at school between 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm on Monday, March 16th. Watch for an email from your child’s teacher if you will need to pick up a packet of work on Monday. If you have a middle school student you may need to come pick up textbooks on Monday from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm if they did not bring them all home on Friday.

Thank you for your support for our staff and school as we work through this together.  We have a strong community and we trust that you will reach out to each other during this difficult time. The office will be open from March 16th – 27th during our regularly scheduled hours if you have any questions or concerns.  The office will remain open as long as this is permitted/recommended by the CDC. We realize that this could be a challenging time for you and we will continue to pray for God’s guidance in how we can support you and your family.

Important dates:

  • March 16th – March 27th will be Home Study days using Google Classroom
  • March 30th – April 13th Easter Break
  • We will return to school on TUESDAY, April 14th.  We are returning on Tuesday so that families do not have to travel on Easter.

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7
